General questions
What does a therapist marketing agency do?
A therapist marketing agency helps mental health professionals reach new clients. It manages website design, paid advertising, social media, and other marketing channels to highlight your therapy services and make your practice easier to find online.
Why is digital marketing important for therapists?
Digital marketing is important because it helps therapists improve their online visibility so that they appear when potential clients are searching for mental health services. It also helps build positive relationships with existing clients by creating opportunities for consistent engagement through social media posts, emails, and other digital communication.
How does TherapySites differ from other marketing agencies?
TherapySites differs from other marketing agencies because we specialize in digital marketing for therapists. For example, we have industry-specific tools, such as online appointment scheduling and HIPAA-compliant emails.
Why should I choose a mental health marketing agency instead of managing marketing myself?
Managing marketing yourself can be overwhelming, especially when you’re also running your therapy practice. A mental health marketing agency brings experience and expertise that most practices don’t have the time or resources to develop in-house.
How can I get started with TherapySites?
To get started with TherapySites, book a consultation with us. One of our web presence advisors will meet with you to discuss your practice’s goals and recommend a marketing solution.
Is TherapySites a full-service marketing agency?
Yes, TherapySites is a full-service marketing agency. We offer services for website design, social media, local SEO, and more to help your practice improve online visibility and attract new clients.
How does TherapySites differ from Brighter Vision?
Both TherapySites and Brighter Vision build websites for therapists. With either company, you get concierge onboarding to design and set up a new website tailored to your practice’s specific needs. The main difference is that TherapySites is an all-in-one digital marketing agency that goes beyond website design to expand your practice’s online visibility and help you reach new clients. We offer additional services that Brighter Vision does not, such as Facebook Advertising.
What is the length of my TherapySites subscription?
TherapySites doesn’t lock you into a subscription. You pay on a month-by-month basis. The exception is if you take advantage of a promotional offer that requires several months of service. For example, you might get a free website design if you commit to 2 months of website hosting. Contact TherapySites today to see what promotion we’re currently running.
Website design
What features can you expect from TherapySites’ therapist website designs?
Here are some of the features TherapySites’ therapist website designs include:
Personalizable theme: After choosing a theme from our design gallery, an Onboarding Specialist tailors it to your practice. If you want to make changes to your website once it’s live, you can log into the portal at any time to do it yourself or reach out to customer support for help.
Encryption: Your website is encrypted to help you protect client information.
Appointment scheduling: Clients can schedule appointments directly on your website instead of calling your practice, making the process quick and easy.
Mobile responsiveness: Your website loads properly on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Unlimited pages: You can add as many pages to your practice website as you want. We recommend starting with pages that describe your services and experience.
Every therapy practice has unique needs, so reach out to us to see what other features we can add to your website.

How does therapy website design differ from general website design?
Mobile responsiveness, fast load speed, and other general website design principles apply across industries, but therapy websites have additional design considerations. Since therapists are healthcare professionals, they must follow HIPAA guidelines by having an HTTPS website that uses encryption to protect client information. Therapist websites typically also have online appointment scheduling for clients and educational resources about the practice’s area of focus.
TherapySites specializes in digital marketing for therapists, so we understand the industry’s unique design needs and apply them with our website design service.
What content should therapist websites have?
Your therapist website should have several pages of content to establish your expertise in the mental health field. Here is some of the content we recommend:
• A page explaining your education, state licenses, association memberships, area of focus, and years of experience
• A page for each mental health conditions you treat
• A page explaining the types of therapy or therapeutic approaches you use for treatment
• Blog posts, infographics, videos, and other educational resources about your area of focus
TherapySites’ website design and SEO services can help you create this content for your website.
Why is website design important for therapy practices?
Website design shapes the initial opinions prospective clients form about your therapy practice. If you have a modern, professional website with information about your services and background, website visitors feel more confident choosing you as their therapist.
Additionally, Google and other search engines look at website design when they’re determining rankings. If your website is easy to navigate and demonstrates your credibility, you’re more likely to rank in search results related to your therapy services. This puts you in front of more potential clients.
How does SEO factor into therapy website design?
Search engines favor user-friendly websites, so following web design best practices is already helping your therapy practice with SEO. For additional search optimization, consider on-page SEO, which looks at the content on your pages. You should be incorporating frequently searched mental health keywords into the text on your web pages so that search engines associate your practice with these searches and show you in their results.
TherapySites has an SEO service that you can bundle with your website design. It handles on-page SEO as well as other best practices to help you rank in more therapy-related search results.
Can you create a multi-practitioner website with TherapySites’ website design service?
Yes, TherapySites’ website design service can build a multi-practitioner website. You can create a page for each therapist in your practice that includes their photo, area of focus, certifications, and other qualifications.
How should I choose a website domain name for my therapy practice?
Your website’s domain name should be representative of what you do, so it’s common to use your therapy practice’s name. If you have a long name, we recommend shortening it to make it easier for clients to remember. For example, if your name is Westchesterfield Counseling Services LLC, you might make your domain name something like "westchesterfieldcounseling.com". TherapySites can help you choose your practice’s domain name as a part of our website design service.
Can I use an existing domain name with TherapySites’ website design service?
Yes, TherapySites’ website design service works with existing domain names. Once you sign up for the service, we will ask if you have an existing domain name you would like to use. If you say yes, we will send you instructions on how to make it work with our website editor. You don’t even have to transfer the domain name to TherapySites’ control. However, if you would like us to manage it for you, we can do so at no additional cost.
Who owns my website and domain name?
If you have an existing domain name, you retain ownership of it. TherapySites owns your domain name if we purchase it for you, but we can transfer ownership to you at any time for a small fee. In either case, you own any website content you add, and TherapySites owns any content we provide with the website. If you stop working with TherapySites, you keep your content, but you may no longer use TherapySites content.
AI optimization
How can TherapySites’ AI optimization service improve my practice’s visibility?
TherapySites’ AI optimization service can improve your practice’s online visibility by putting you in front of prospective clients who use AI platforms to find mental health services. SEO on its own focuses on ranking for traditional search engines like Google, but AI optimization can extend your reach to appear in AI search responses.
Is TherapySites’ AI optimization service a standalone service?
No, TherapySites’ AI optimization service is not a standalone service. AIO is only available to customers who also purchase our SEO service. AIO takes the optimization strategies for traditional search engines in our SEO service and expands on them to help you appear for AI search platforms as well.
What AI platforms do people use to research therapists?
ChatGPT is a common AI platform for therapy-related searches, but Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity are also popular. Our AIO service optimizes your practice website to appear for all of these AI platforms.
How do AI search platforms decide what to show in their responses?
AI search platforms use several factors to decide what to show in their responses. They tend to favor website content that:
• Comes from a reliable source with experience on the subject matter
• Was published recently
• Uses easy-to-read formatting like bullet points and short sentences
Websites that follow these preferences are more likely to be cited in responses to AI search queries.
How are AI search platforms different from traditional search engines?
A traditional search engine gives the user a list of websites related to their query, while an AI search platform combs through all of the websites that relate to the query and presents the user with a summary of the information.
Looking at it from a therapy lens, a user gets a list with hundreds of therapy practices when they search for mental health services on Google. With AI, a user gets just a few practice recommendations. While the latter is more helpful for the user because they don’t have to do as much research themselves, it makes your job more difficult because you have fewer chances to be recommended. Our AIO service can help you address this by optimizing your website based on what AI platforms prefer.
E-store
What can therapists sell using TherapySites’ e-store?
Therapists can sell a variety of products with TherapySites’ e-store. Digital products might include:
Workbooks/worksheets: Helps clients work on coping skills outside of appointments
Online courses: Teaches a particular mental health topic through a self-paced module
Audio/videos: Includes guided meditations and breathing exercises
E-books: Provides information about a particular mental health condition or treatment
You can also sell physical merchandise, such as:
Journals/planners: Provides a way to document thoughts and moods
Sensory tools: Includes fidget toys, weighted blankets, and essential oils
What are the benefits of having a therapy e-store?
Here are some of the benefits of having a therapy e-store:
• E-stores aren’t restricted to regular business hours, so buyers can access them from anywhere at any time.
• E-stores often have more inventory than physical stores, so buyers get more options to compare different products and prices.
• Search bars and filter options let buyers quickly zero in on exactly what they need.
• For sensitive products, e-stores allow buyers to make purchases without feeling self-conscious.
• The product descriptions on e-stores can go beyond what’s found on the packaging to include instructions and user reviews, helping buyers make more informed purchasing decisions.
You can offer an e-store in addition to or instead of selling your therapy products at your practice’s office. TherapySites’ e-commerce service can help you set up and manage your e-store.

Can I sell therapy e-store products to people who are not clients?
Yes, you can sell your therapy e-store products to non-clients as well as clients. In fact, we recommend it because it helps you reach a broader audience of buyers and create a scalable revenue stream outside of therapy sessions.
How do people find out about my therapy practice’s e-store?
You can tell clients about your practice’s e-store during therapy sessions. They may also come across the page naturally when they’re navigating your website. To reach non-clients, start selling your products on social media and other online marketplaces. TherapySites has a social media management service that can help you set up and manage the social media pages you’ll use to sell products.
Are there ethical concerns with a therapist selling products?
There can be ethical concerns with selling products, especially to your therapy clients. Make sure you’re not pushing your clients to purchase your products. They should still receive the therapy services they’re paying for during their sessions, but you can promote your products as extra tools that might help them cope and manage their conditions outside of appointments. Additionally, you want to make it clear on your e-store that your products are for educational purposes only and are not a substitute for therapy.
Facebook Ads
How much does TherapySites’ Facebook Ads service cost?
There are three main costs associated with TherapySites’ Facebook Ads service:
$99 one-time fee: We set up your practice in our advertising tools and systems.
$158 monthly management fee: We continue to run your ads and tweak them as needed.
Monthly advertising spend: We use this budget to bid on your ad placements. You can allocate as much or as little as you want to Facebook Advertising, but a larger budget will get you more placements.
How does TherapySites maintain HIPAA compliance with Facebook Ads?
TherapySites’ Facebook Ads service maintains HIPAA compliance by making sure not to mention personal information about therapy clients, such as their full names and images. One of the main ways to attract new clients is to show them proof of the quality care you provide, so we sometimes use testimonials or examples from past clients in your Facebook Ads. However, we always leave out any personal information that could be traced back to real people.
How does TherapySites decide who to target with our Facebook Ads service?
TherapySites will work with you to identify your practice’s ideal target audience. We will look at:
Demographics: Age, gender, income, occupation, education
Interests: What products, services, topics, or activities they like
Behaviors: How they spend their money, what they do in their free time
Facebook lets you get pretty granular with your target audience so that you can focus your marketing efforts on the users who are most likely to be interested in your therapy services.
How does Facebook Ads compare to Instagram Ads?
Facebook Ads and Instagram Ads operate similarly because Meta owns both social media platforms. You use Meta Ads Manager to manage ads on both platforms, which means you get the same granular audience targeting and the same bidding system to determine ad placement.
However, there are some differences in terms of ad type and target audience. Instagram has a younger user base, so you may want to use Instagram Ads instead of Facebook Ads if you have a young target audience for your therapy services. Additionally, Instagram Ads must include images or videos, while Facebook Ads give you the option to just use copy. That being said, Facebook Ads with visuals tend to perform better, so we recommend including them regardless.
TherapySites focuses on Facebook Ads with our social media advertising service. Contact us to determine if Facebook is the right advertising platform for your practice.
What is the difference between Facebook Ads and Google Ads?
People use Google when they are actively searching for therapy services. Google users are ready to book an appointment, so seeing your ad at the top of their search can position you as the solution to their mental health concern and encourage them to choose you as their therapist.
On the flip side, people don’t turn to social media when they have an urgent mental health concern, so advertising on Facebook is unlikely to turn users into clients on the spot. Instead, your ads are educational, giving users information about your services so that you remain top of mind when they need care that falls within your specialty in the future.
Both Google Ads and Facebook Ads play an important role in building brand awareness for your therapy practice, which is why we recommend splitting your advertising budget between these channels. Contact TherapySites to see how we can help you with this through our paid advertising services.
Google Ads
What is the cost breakdown of TherapySites’ Google Ads service?
There are three main costs associated with our Google Ads service for therapists:
$99 one-time fee: To set you up in our advertising tools and systems
$300 monthly management fee: To manage your ongoing ads
$300 minimum monthly advertising spend: This is the budget we put toward bidding on your ad placements. You can increase your monthly budget, but $300 is the minimum amount to see results with your ads.
Why should you choose TherapySites to manage your therapist PPC Ads?
TherapySites is a Google Premier Partner, which is a status Google awards to its highest-performing advertisers. We not only have demonstrated experience with Google Ads, we also specialize specifically in the therapy industry. We know what keywords and ads perform best for therapists, so we know how to drive website traffic and appointment bookings for your practice.
How does website design complement Google Ads for therapists?
Your practice website is the first place Google users go after seeing one of your ads. You want to make a positive first impression by having a professional, modern website that explains your services and credentials. That way, users feel confident choosing you as their therapist. To help you with this, TherapySites offer website design and Google Ads services you can bundle together.
What types of Google Ads should therapists use?
Google offers several ad formats, but the most effective ones for therapists tend to be:
Search: These are text-based ads that appear at the top of Google search results.
Display: These image or video ads appear across websites, apps, and other Google-owned properties.
Local services: These ads show your Google Business Profile at the top of local searches ahead of other non-sponsored profiles.
How does Google Advertising compare to Facebook Advertising?
People use Google when they are actively searching for therapy services. Google users are ready to book an appointment, so seeing your ad at the top of their search can position you as the solution to their mental health concern and encourage them to choose you as their provider.
On the other hand, people don’t usually turn to social media when they have an urgent mental health concern, so advertising on Facebook is unlikely to convert users into clients on the spot. Instead, your ads are educational, giving users information about your specialty and services so that you remain top of mind when they need care that falls within your area of focus in the future.
Though they serve different purposes, both Google Ads and Facebook Ads play an important role in building a digital presence for your therapy practice, which is why we recommend investing in both channels. Contact TherapySites to see how we can help you with this task through our paid advertising services.
Reputation management
What is the Master Profile feature of TherapySites’ reputation management service?
The Master Profile feature of TherapySites’ reputation management service stores your practice’s most up-to-date information, such as your address, phone number, and website. When you make changes to any of your practice details, our system disseminates these changes across the various directory listings you have. This ensures that potential clients get the correct information about your practice without you having to manually update each directory profile.
How does having directory profiles help your therapy practice get more clients?
Most people turn to online reviews when they’re choosing a therapy practice because they want to see real examples of clients who have been helped. Your profiles across Yelp, Google, and other online directories is where clients leave those reviews.
Aside from the reviews, taking the time to fill out every section of a directory profile shows professionalism, credibility, and care. If a prospective client is looking at your robust profile with a lot of reviews compared to another therapist’s bare-bones profile, they’re going to choose your practice because you look more trustworthy.
What online directories are most important for mental health professionals?
Mental health professionals should start with Google and Yelp because they are the most popular online directories and review sites across all sectors. Therapists should also create profiles for healthcare-specific directories, including:
• WebMD
• Healthgrades
• Zocdoc
• Vitals
• Psychology Today
TherapySites’ reputation management service can help your practice create and optimize profiles across all of these sites.
Does word-of-mouth still matter for healthcare practices?
Word-of-mouth still matters for healthcare practices, including therapy practices, but it has evolved into what is called eWOM, or electronic word-of-mouth. eWOM means therapy clients use online reviews from strangers like word-of-mouth recommendations to determine which therapy provider to choose. Even if someone gets a therapist recommendation from a family member or friend, they are likely still going to search that therapist online to verify that other clients have also had a good experience with them.
How does reputation management affect SEO?
Google, ChatGPT, and other traditional and AI search platforms use your online reputation to determine your credibility. They look for online consensus, meaning they consider what the internet says about you across all of your directory profiles, client reviews, and other brand mentions. Using reputation management to maintain a positive online brand can show search platforms that you’re credible, helping you rank in traditional search results and appear in AI search responses.
Because reputation and SEO are so intertwined, we recommend pairing our reputation management service with our SEO and AIO services. Contact us to learn more about this bundle.

TherapySites’ SEO service optimizes for local SEO by helping you add location keywords to your website and create your Google Business Profile.

Can I use regular email to communicate with my clients?
You can use regular email to send appointment reminders or request client feedback. For any emails that discuss a client’s diagnosis, treatment, or other personal information, be sure to use an encrypted platform. You can play it safe by sending all emails through this platform.
What is protected health information (PHI)?
Protected health information (PHI) is any health information that can identify an individual, including:
• Diagnoses
• Treatments
• Lab results
• Prescriptions
• Insurance claims
• Payment records
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law that defines PHI and lays out guidelines to keep it private. One of those guidelines is to use encryption to protect PHI when sending and storing it electronically. TherapySites’ communication platform meets this requirement.

How many social media posts do you get with TherapySites’ social media management service?
TherapySites has two levels to its social media management service. The level you choose determines how many social media posts you get per week. Social Media Premium comes with two Facebook posts and two Instagram posts per week. Social Media Elite increases that number to three weekly posts per platform and adds three weekly posts for Twitter/X.

TherapySites creates two or three weekly posts per platform depending on the social media management level you choose. However, you also get access to a social media calendar where you can add your own posts. You can repurpose the therapy-related content and graphics from our resource library in your posts or write new posts from scratch.
What are some content ideas for therapist social media pages?
Here are some content ideas for your therapy practice’s social media pages:
Educational videos: Create videos explaining common services, conditions, and treatments in your area of focus.
Client testimonials: Share testimonial videos or written reviews from clients (with their permission).

What is the difference between social media posts and ads?
Social media posts get published on your page. They’re free to create, and they appear in the feeds of your followers. Their purpose is to engage and educate your audience on topics related to your therapy practice. On the other hand, social media ads are paid promotions that market your therapy services. Unlike regular posts, ads can appear in the feeds of users who don’t follow your page.
TherapySites’ social media management service focuses on social media posts. For social media ads, we have a separate service for Facebook Advertising.
What social media platforms should therapy practices use?

Facebook: If you have an older target audience and like to create content that has a mix of text and imagery
Instagram: If you have a younger target audience and like to create content with images and videos

Telecounseling
What equipment do I need to use TherapySites’ telecounseling platform?
You need a computer with a built-in camera and adequate internet connection to use TherapySites’ telecounseling platform. Aside from equipment, you also need a quiet, private space from which to host your therapy sessions. A room with a door is preferable so that you’re free from distractions.
How do therapists get paid with TherapySites’ teletherapy service?
TherapySites’ teletherapy service uses a payment processor to facilitate payments between therapists and their clients. You provide the payment processor with your bank account information. When a client pays for a session, the payment gets held for about a week before it’s deposited directly into your bank account.
Why might therapy clients prefer telecounseling to in-person counseling?
There are many reasons clients might prefer telecounseling to in-person counseling, including:
Comfort: Clients may feel more relaxed discussing their condition from the privacy of their own home.
Access: Clients may have a physical disability, no means of transportation, no childcare, or something else preventing them from making it to your practice for in-person sessions.
Convenience: Clients don’t have to spend time commuting to your practice, and they can schedule around their work hours or other obligations.
Affordability: Clients don’t have to worry about the cost of gas or public transit to get to and from your practice.
By offering telecounseling, you are able to accommodate what works for more clients, which also helps you fill your schedule and grow your practice.
Is telecounseling covered by insurance?
Generally speaking, telecounseling is usually covered by Medicare and Medicaid as well as private insurance. However, coverage can vary by insurance provider or plan, state laws, and specific condition or treatment. Encourage your clients to research what their coverage is before beginning therapy to ensure any out-of-pocket costs align with their budget.
What mental health conditions can you treat with teletherapy?
You can treat many mental health conditions with teletherapy, including:
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Bipolar disorder
• ADD/ADHD
• PTSD
• Substance abuse
• Grief and loss
• Couple and family dynamics
In-person therapy is better for conditions that require close monitoring, such as schizophrenia, because it’s easier to pick up on non-verbal cues. If you primarily treat conditions like this, teletherapy may not be a beneficial offering for your practice.
