Wisconsin Improves Access to Telehealth Services
On November 26, 2019, Wisconsin governor Tony Evers signed SB 380. This bill enables WI residents on Medicaid to have increased access to telehealth services.
Wisconsin is part of a growing pool of states that are expanding access to telehealth services to portions of the population that have difficulty accessing standard mental health and counseling services. This includes patients who live in rural areas, where provider shortages are common.
Patients can connect with a provider remotely from home, school, or other non-clinical locations using secure software or other telecommunications channels covered under the bill.
Bill SB 380 prevents Medicaid from denying covered based on the recipient’s location. Additional provider certifications or other qualifications are not required for coverage.
