6 Things We Look for in a Professional Website
Does your website have them?
The gap between an average website and an excellent website isn’t usually obvious. And a clean, appealing design is only a small part of it. We’ve put together a process for evaluating our client websites. Here are six things we look for that separate the good from the great.
Mobile-Friendly Design
Smartphones and other mobile devices now outnumber “traditional” computers like desktops and laptops. If your website is not mobile-friendly, it might be almost impossible to use on these devices. What if a client wants to make an appointment, but can’t load your website? They usually go somewhere else.
Responsive Design
We do more than simply redirecting clients to a mobile version of your website. A better way to make sure you’re mobile-friendly is to use responsive design. A responsive design shapes itself to display correctly on any device. Google gives preference to sites that use responsive design. So, it also helps you rank higher when people search for your services.
Best SEO Practices
Much of what gives a website high search ranking happens behind the scenes. If you look at the code behind your website, you’ll see things called tags.
They look like this: <meta keyword=”business”>.
This code communicates with search engines (and clients) about who you are and what you do. Many website templates don’t include all that code or don’t optimize it for you. This can make it hard to find your practice in search engines. We adjust all that code for you so you don’t have to worry about it.
Contact Info Above the Fold
The part of a newspaper you can see without unfolding it is called “above the fold.” In web design, there’s a similar idea. The part of the website you can see without scrolling is above the fold. That’s where Google (and clients) expect your most important information to be. We’ll check to make sure the information they need to make an appointment is right where it should be.
Current Google Ranking
We also check your current Google rankings for your practice and location. If you show up on the first page, then we’ll work with you to build strategies to expand your reach further. And if not, no need to fear. Our audit of your website will give us strategies we can use to help you in any situation.
Valuable Social Media Content
If you have a Facebook or Twitter profile, we’ll make sure they’re at their best. We check to make sure all the information clients need to make an appointment is where it should be. We also make sure the content you’re posting is valuable to clients and search engines.
Does your website make the cut? If you’re not sure or have any questions, contact us. Your dedicated Web Presence Specialist will be more than glad to help you out.
